Aleksander Żyw : ウィキペディア英語版 | Aleksander Żyw
Aleksander Zyw (1905–1995) can be seen as a quintessentially European artist. His roots start in Poland, living in France, Britain and Italy, exhibiting in them all during his career. Taking his early Impressionist landscapes as a start, we see him as an artist changed by war. In the horrors he witnessed as a soldier, but more devastatingly in the horrors which befell his family and homeland. His art turned inward to express these pains. His abstract works of the 1950s explore the human psyche and worlds beyond the reach of our vision. In the later period of Zyw's career saw him become contemplative; turning his efforts to studying the ethereal qualities of nature in minute detail. He is one of the finest emigre painters to emerge from Poland in the twentieth century. ==Early life==
Aleksander Żyw was born in Lida,Belarus(earlier Poland) in 1905. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the teaching of Tadeusz Pruszkowski. In 1934 he was awarded a scholarship to travel around Europe, much of which he traveled on foot. It was around the Mediterranean where Żyw adopted the style of a neo-impressionist painter, focusing on the landscapes of the Mediterranean Coast. He had set up a studio in Paris he was however in Corsica, when World War II broke out.
